Contemporary Jewish Museum
What began in 1984 as a place to experience Jewish culture, art and ideas has grown into a dynamic and popular place to learn about art, film, literature, music and debate. Here, you’ll find exhibitions that include diverse media and disciplines as well as live performances.
The Mexican Museum
With a permanent collection that includes more than 12,000 objects, the Mexican Museum is the place to see works by artists such as Orozco, Rivera, Covarrubias and other famous Mexican artists. There is also plenty of art by modern Latino artists as well as educational initiatives for all ages.
The California Historical Society
Learn everything you wanted to know about the history of the Golden State by seeing this remarkable collection of artifacts, artwork and ephemera.
The Cartoon Museum
This is the place to see original cartoon art, from the earliest hand-painted cells to the most recent Manga sketches. What began with an endowment from Charles Schultz, the creator of Peanuts has grown to become a research/library facility that houses more than 6,000 original pieces in its permanent collection.
MoAD
The Museum of the African Diaspora describes itself this way: “Drawing from the collections of museums, institutes, organizations, universities and private citizens, MoAD is a collector of stories-a repository of information to be shared with all who wish to know about the African Diaspora.
Museum of Modern Art
Much more than just an art gallery, SFMOMA is an innovative nonprofit endeavor that offers a rooftop garden, a film program, live art performances, and educational programs for families, teens and educators in addition to its permanent collections and limited-time exhibitions.
